Our Story

Ethan and I met in 2012 in a place we called Heaven aka ChiangMai, Thailand.  Ethan was on his last few transfers of his church mission and I had just got to Thailand.  After my two months of training was over I moved to an area in Bangkok and Ethan stayed and finished in Chiang Mai (2012).  

In the year that I served, Ethan wrote me ... often! And I, well ... let just say wrote him a handful of times.  He always had something motivating to say about his experiences as a missionary and uplifting things that helped me to be a kinder companion and better missionary.  I thought it was great! I practically had two district leaders at all times.  More importantly he was good at not being "mushy" because I was not about to hop on that train.  When the time came for me to go home(2013), I knew Ethan wanted to date and I being the fresh returned missionary was scared of boys.  I decided that Ethan and I would be friends.  I friend-zoned him hard guys and more than once. My bad. At the same time I thought maybe we would  go on dates.  More friend zone and more "dating".  On September 11, 2013 we made it official! The Saturday before we made it official, we had gone up to Salt Lake.  Ethan translates in Thai for General Conference so I went to the temple and we would meet up after we were both done. God told me he had placed all my ducks in a row for me when we talked in the Salt Lake Temple the weekend before and Ethan was definitely in the picture. 

We went to lunch after and he had no idea what I had just experienced and had no idea what would happen later.  To be real, neither did I. After he dropped me off at home, I did some homework but once I was done I couldn't get my mind off him.  So I texted him and asked him what his plans were for the night. He said just hanging out and watching James Bond (his favorite). He picked me up again and we went back to his apartment and watched a Disney movie. I'm pretty sure it was Pixars' Up. 

Later that week, I started to see all of God's plans fall into place. I got a job at the MTC teaching Thai.  I got into all my classes that I needed that semester. Last was Ethan. God wasn't going to force me to love or even like him so I knew this was the time I started doing something.  I was still a little hesitant so I decided maybe if I drop subliminal messages (hold his arm, sit really close to him on the couch, etc.) he would catch on and we would just date and won't have to DTR. No luck.  I'll admit that up to that point I had given him mixed messages so it was fair that we had an awkward encounter with a girl he liked before I got home. We were at my brother and sister-in-laws apartment and there she was. (She is good friends with my sis-in-law) and I had heard the name but never really met her in person.  I didn't feel too awkward but I knew Ethan did and I was the reason he "dropped off the face of the earth" and didn't talk to her anymore.   We got back to his apartment, and the moment I feared had come.  We sat on the porch and we DTR-ed.  If you know me, I hate talking about my feelings. period. I just wanted an easy way to say, I like you a lot and am ready to date you exclusively. September 11 has been a good day for us since that porch conversation.  But talk about persistence!!  Ladies this is all those chick flicks we watch where the guy fights for the girl.  Runs after her after she walks away and is still sitting on the porch wanting to date you after all the games we play.

Right from the start of our relationship we both new where it was going to end up.  Technically, if you ask Ethan he knew way back in 2012!  Long story short, we fell in love; he asked me to marry him on November 3rd and I said "yes!".

He has been such an anchor for me through all the trials and adjustments of being home.  Even when we were missionaries he always was a great example and has such a strong testimony.  On February 21, 2014 we got married I am so happy and blessed to spend eternity with my best friend!
